West Salem will travel to Newberg on Tuesday the 15th at 5:00PM and host Thurston Thursday the 17th at 4:30PM. Both games will be a great challenge for the Titans as Newberg sits at 14th in the state and Thurston is ranked #2; West Salem is at #13. The games do not effect rankings (state rankings were frozen this weekend), but are certainly not meaningless. Each of the teams are looking to roll into the playoff, which start Monday, May 21st, on a hot streak. Come on out and root on your Titans as they aim to head into the post-season on the right foot!

An impromptu battle by the bay was scheduled for Saturday the 12th in Astoria. The Titans took the contest in 5 innings by a score of 13-3. Riley Newman’s pitching was on fire, but the bats were hotter as West left a lasting impression on the coastal town. The win helped the Titans jump from 18th in the state to number 13. By moving into the top 16 West was able to guarantee a home game for the first round of the OSAA playoffs. The first round game will take place on Monday, May 21st at West Salem High School against an opponent yet to be determined. Stayed tuned here for more playoff details!

The Titan seniors put a double digit pounding on North Salem Thursday. West Salem sent the class of 2012 off in grand fashion as they collected 15 runs on 19 hits, including 7 extra base knocks. Eight of the nine Titan starters had multi-hit games; Jake Riddell, Brenden Shaffer, and Daniel Zachary leading the charge with three hits each. On the mound, ace pitcher Aaron Sigmund went the distance allowing 2 earned runs in his complete game gem. The 15-4 win gives the Titans a season sweep of the Vikings. It also allows West Salem to clinch second place in the CVC and an automatic berth into the OSSA state playoffs. Stay tuned here as well as Facebook and Twitter to find out who the Titans will face in the first round!

The regular season finale is more than simply the last conference game of the year. It also signals the end of an era as nine Titan seniors will play in their last CVC contest at West Salem. These great student-athletes are Cody Allison, Evan Fowler, Brandon Groat, Colby Rice, Brenden Shaffer, Aaron Sigmund, Ryan Snow, Ryan Schlegal, and Daniel Zachary. These young men have worked incredibly hard, have shown tremendous dedication to the Titan Baseball program, and have made their fellow teammates, coaches, and family proud for four amazing years. As these seniors will tell you, the season’s nowhere close to being over…but let’s take the day to congratulate and thank our seniors for all that they have done!

On Monday the Titans beat Sprague 6 to 5 in the second extra inning affair between the teams this year. Riley Newman started the game and pitched well for five and a third innings and Caleb Henry came in to shut the door, throwing in relief for the rest of the game. The two combined to strike out 10 Oly batters. Offensively, Jake Riddell, Colby Rice, and Aaron Sigmund led West with muli-hit games. Brady Rediger was the big hero, coming up with the walk-off hit to score Caleb Henry who had doubled to lead off the bottom of the 10th. With the win, West Salem took the season series with Sprague 2-1.

On Tuesday at McKay Cody Allison did his best Nolan Ryan impersonation as he struck out 11 in 7 innings of work, earning the complete game win. In the batter’s box the Titans used triples by Brandon Groat and Daniel Zachary to post six runs, which was more than enough as West beat the Royal Scots 6 to 1. The win gave the Titans the season sweep against McKay.

Up Next: The Titans will honor their seniors on Thursday as they host North Salem in the last conference game of the season. The game is scheduled to start at 4:30, so be there early to pay respect to the hard working class of 2012. The Titans lead the season series between the teams 2-0 and are looking for the sweep.

Up next: Sprague comes to West Salem on Monday. The game was originally scheduled for May 3rd, but weather has pushed it to Monday, the 7th. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30PM. One is the magic number here in this series as each team has one win on the other’s turf and both games have been decided by one run (3-2 Sprague win in game one and a 5-4 extra inning win for the Titans in the second match-up). Expect another great contest and come out to support your Titans!

Up Next: The Titans will look to get back on track as they head to Keizer to finish their season series with McNary. The series is tied at one, with each team winning a game on the road. The first pitch is scheduled for 4:30PM on Tuesday, May 1st at McNary High School.

Hot hitting and dominate pitching were used to help the Titans finish off the week undefeated as they took down McKay 6-1 and North Salem 12-1. Cody Allison earned the win vs. the Royal Scots, while Riley Newman notched the “w” against North. The two aces were on the top of their game in their respective starts and were the beneficiaries of some great offense as the Titans pounded out 24 hits in the two games. Eight of those hits were of the extra-base variety, including two triples by Brandon Groat and three doubles by Jacob Riddell. The wins push the Titans’ record to 7-3 in league.

Up Next: West hosts South Salem on Monday, April 30th. The Titans trail the Saxons by two games in the CVC. In all likelihood West needs a win to have any shot at overtaking South for the number one spot in the league. This is the final regular season meeting between the two teams this year, with the series tied at one (both teams winning on their home turf). Each team enters the game riding a winning streak; South has won nine in a row since their league opening loss to West and the Titans have won three consecutive contests. Monday’s game is scheduled for 4:30PM at West Salem High School.

Extra innings were needed to decided the victor between West Salem and Sprague on Monday. A close battle the entire game, the match up was full of solid pitching and clutch hitting from both sides. While there were many highlights Daniel Zachary’s 10th inning heroics stand out above the rest. With the game tied 4-4 and representing the go ahead run Zachary used the span of about four pitches to smack a single to right, advance to second on a ball in the dirt and then steal third. After an intentional walk to Brenden Shaffer (2 for 4 on the day), Zachary scored on Ryan Snow’s one out, game clinching RBI fielder’s choice. In the bottom of the tenth Caleb Henry finished off Sprague in order for his second impressive long-relief win of the season. Henry, who allowed no runs to Sprague, entered in the 6th inning following another strong start by senior Aaron Sigmund. The 5-4 Titan win evens up the season series between the two squads at one apiece, with the rubber match coming at West Salem on May 3rd.

Up Next: West Salem hosts McKay on Tuesday. The Titans won the first meeting between the teams 11-5 on April 13th at McKay.
